DES MOINES GARDEN WEDDING

Katie and Andrew celebrated their love story at a beautiful Iowa Botanical Center. It was one of our absolute Favorite weddings in 2019!

Katie and Andrew incorporated their love of friends and family at their wedding. They worked hard to make it a celebration of everyone coming together! The carved wood with their initials was the perfect touch to a wedding set in a garden. And it made the perfect display for their rings!

When we first paired up with the bride to be, she shared how important having a flower crown was to her. She shared photo ideas with Lavender Blue and we worked together on different variations, resulting in something she really loved! We made the crown with white and pink roses, a mixture of greenery and white waxflower. When we got the pictures back from the wedding, it was so fun to see her running around the gardens barefoot with her crown! She was able to look like the absolute princess that she is -both in appearance and in the heart.

We always remind brides to mention to their wedding photographer how important those detail shots are. Oftentimes, things can get hectic at the start. Everyone needs to be photographed prior to the beginning of the ceremony. We remind our brides that whether we create a full-on environment, or they work with the family to DIY something personal, they will want to look at those detail shots later!

Katie and Andy are such a special couple, supported by wonderful friends. The whole wedding party seemed to happily join in with the groom, in setting up and decorating the ceremony space. They decorated the arbor, the ceremony space, and placed tables and chairs. The mixed greenery garland was an organic touch that repeated all the native plant material around their gazebo setting. The garland was made in small 3 foot sections so we could easily move it around the tables. The bride’s friend grew vines of clematis earlier in the season, specifically to have Katie decorate her ceremony arch with. It was the perfect touch and so meaningful to the bride and groom.

Iowa boasts some beautiful spaces for smaller, intimate weddings like Katie and Andy had. One of our favorite things to do is discover the new space as we meet them ahead or explore it on the wedding day. It is a true honor to experience all the love and excitement of the bride and groom. When you see the bride in her wedding dress, bouquet in hand, and smiling bridesmaids all around her….. well it’s one of those life moments that is absolutely Priceless and we love to be a part of it! Here is what Katie thought about working with Lavender Blue:

Lynda was incredible to work with! We actually reached out to 3 or 4 florists and Lynda was the only one who got back to us quickly and expressed enthusiasm to work with us. She communicated very clearly, and made the most gorgeous arrangements we could have asked for. We had our wedding at a garden venue so we didn't have a lot for flowers - but what we did were breathtaking. I described how I wanted my flower crown to look and what she made absolutely blew me away. It doesn't get better than Lavender Blue! Thanks for everything, Lynda!
